About Us

We are committed to creating an enjoyable program for both scouts and parents through activities designed to promote values, ethical character, citizenship, service and leadership. Our charter is granted by the Bay Lakes Area Council, BSA, and we are sponsored by Alliance Bible Church of Mequon. The Troop was originally chartered through Divine Word Catholic Church, Cedarburg in 1994 and has been in continuous operation since then; serving Cedarburg and the surrounding communities for over 14 years.

Are you looking for a different scouting experience? Are you tired of loud chaotic meetings? Looking for something more traditional? If so, Troop 836 may be what you’re looking for!! We have an outing every month. We let the boys run the program. We train our scout patrol leaders. We wear the scout uniform at every meeting and to every outing. We follow the scout oath and law. Drop by one of our troop meetings and see how we operate. We think you’ll appreciate the difference a traditional program can make on your son’s life.

TRADITIONAL VALUES    We are a traditional scouting troop. We expect boys to wear their uniform at all meetings and to and from an outing. We expect our boys to behave like scouts at all times and to uphold the scout oath and law whether they are at home, at school or at a scout function. We expect our boys to learn from each other, teach each other, lead each other and after achieving Life Rank to continue to serve each other by staying active in the troop.

OUR PHILOSOPHY    We take every opportunity to let boys grow and develop into strong leaders by teaching strong values. We believe that boys learn best by doing, making mistakes, teaching younger scouts and working with the older ones. We provide a nurturing, friendly environment in which the boys can safely make mistakes and grow from them.

ACTIVITIES    Our Troop is very active. We meet weekly and year round. We have an active summer program. We camp or offer an outing at least once per month. We attend summer camp every summer. We do service projects regularly. We march in all of the parades. We offer merit badge opportunities regularly.

SERVICE    Our Troop is very service-oriented. We have a service hours coordinator who provides opportunities for scouts to serve their local and wider communities almost monthly. Every year we bake pies for seniors, we feed the hungry, we participate in Scouting for Food, we volunteer at the Relay for Life cancer walk and the list does go on.

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT   Parents are an important part of this troop. We strongly encourage parental involvement in our troop and parents are welcome at an activity. We hold monthly troop committee meetings in which parents are encouraged to attend. The committee consists of volunteer parents who provides the support that enables the Scoutmaster to deliver a quality troop program to the scouts. It is a policy-making body that has ultimate responsibility for the performance and welfare of the Troop.

LEADERS   Our adult leaders have years of scouting experience, not just weeks. Our Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters typically have 5-15 years of scouting experience each.
